Response – Charter for Human Responsibility

Humankind is confronting new challenges; in particular the imperative to safeguard the environment for future generations. We are using responsibility as an ethical concept to build on ‘rights’ and ‘peace’ through the emergence of a relational and integrated world view that is needed to ensure the viability of planet earth and her peoples. This concept underpins all work we are engaged in and is in constant evolution in response to the development and needs of people and culture.

This is a South Pacific regional initiative for the collective and individual taking of Responsibility. We are implementing a Charter for Human Responsibility which is international in scope with activities in all the continents, including the Pacific ‘Liquid’ Continent. Projects for developing Human Responsibility are aligned to regional priorities and engage with issues of sustainability. In the pacific continent our major project is on the integrated management and governance of aquatic ecosystems that prioritises indigenous knowledge and integrates it with western science.

A Charter for Human Responsibility is envisaged as complementing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Charter for Peace.

Responsibility, like Human Rights, values human wellbeing and respect for relationships between people and communities, and extends to collective action for earth sustainability.
